How to access outside network when using the VPN
- Introduction
- VPN proxy server settings
Accessing external network through VPN equipment doubles the network traffic. To save network bandwidth, we restrict your VPN connection from outside the University (for example, from your home, or when away on business) so that you can only access the internal network of the University.
By the VPN connection, you can access to university web sites for internal use. However, if there is a link from internal page to an external Web site, you will not be able to access the external page by following the link. The electronic journals in the library are a good example.
The library's electronic journal is an internal university service, but the electronic journal itself is on an external site. To read the journal, you need to follow links registered on the library homepage to external site. That means your access to journals will be blocked by the VPN connection.
To solve this problem, we have provided a proxy server specifically for the VPN system, which allows you to access electronic journals even when using the VPN system. The configuration is as follows.
The VPN proxy server is for the VPN system only.
- You cannot directry use the server from outside the university and also from inside
- You can use the server from outside the university network only when using the VPN system
- By the proxy, you can access external sites, but only registered ones.
Please configure your browser as follows to use the proxy server.
